# Personal site: a website with you as the root of your brand

A personal site is **a website that stands for you**. It tells customers and algorithms that you are the person who makes the product. In Write to Sell, students always have 2 websites, which are a personal site and a [business site](https://cuongthach.com/docs/write-to-sell/positioning/concepts/business-site). The personal site is the root, and the business site follows.

## What is a personal site?

Your core product grows out of you, and you are its center. The personal site is where that center speaks for you. Instead of introducing yourself to each person, the site does it, telling who you are, what expertise you have, what you believe and what you have made.

Each person has only **one personal site**. You can have many business sites for many product lines, but you are one person, with your hobbies, your strengths and the superpower no one can copy. The personal site keeps all of that in one place.

The personal site is also where you leave your mark on the Internet. Each page and post on it is a trace showing that you do real work and plan to keep at it.

## Why not stay anonymous?

![Why not stay anonymous?](https://cuongthach.com/docs/_nimbus/md/8iztd3/illus-docs-site-ca-nhan-xac-thuc.en.svg "A personal site proves who is behind the product")

A personal site is for **proof**. It shows customers that a real person stands behind the product, and that this person takes the work seriously. It also helps algorithms understand who you are, what you are doing and which field your expertise belongs to.

Write to Sell is **not for people who want to stay anonymous**. The coaching program is for people who take their product seriously and answer for it. Building a personal brand is how you stand in front of your own product, show that your effort deserves respect, and take pride in it.

The personal site is also where you find yourself. When you write about your expertise, your story and your beliefs, you get clear on who you are, then grow from there into a business. The business follows, and the person leads.

## What does it hold?

A personal site has 2 main parts, which are a home page that says who you are, and a product of its own. The home page tells readers whose site they are on. The product shows that you don't just talk about your expertise, you make something from it.

### What does the home page say?

The home page of a personal site answers 4 questions:

1. Who are you?
2. What is your expertise?
3. Which products do you have, or which one are you working toward?
4. Whom have you helped, and what path have you walked?

The home page tells your story, introduces your product and states your mission. With no product yet, the home page only speaks about your mission, your expertise and your beliefs, meaning what you will do and what you truly believe. How to build each part is on the page [Create a home page](https://cuongthach.com/docs/write-to-sell/positioning/guides/home-page).

### What should you sell?

A personal site should have a product of its own. Usually it is **a product that helps you learn and practice**, meaning something you make while you learn your own expertise.

A learning product can be turned into a business. When you learn something and see that people need it, you start with yourself, then sell it to more people. Many services and products began this way, going from one person's learning to a brand's product.

So a personal site is more than a profile page. It is where your first products are born, before they are big enough to get a business site of their own.

## Declare the brand behind the site

![Declare the brand behind the site](https://cuongthach.com/docs/_nimbus/md/1vjomcc/illus-docs-the-ten-noi-nhau.en.svg "One name ties your site to all your pages")

Search algorithms and AI tools need to know who a website belongs to before they treat it as a real brand. For a personal site, declare 3 things before you turn on indexing:

- **Site name and tagline.** The site name is exactly the brand name, matching the logo, with no keywords stuffed in. The tagline is one sentence under 145 characters naming the main solution.
- **The entity type is Person**, with a display name that matches the site name and a profile image.
- **Author profile.** The public name is your real name or the brand name, never "admin", with a few lines of bio that match your social media bio and links to those social pages.

When these match across the site and social media, algorithms can tie them to one brand. The click-by-click steps on Blueky are in the post [Configure your brand identity for SEO](https://help.blueky.com/en/configure-brand-identity-website).

## How do the two sites connect?

The two sites do 2 different jobs.

| Site | Main job |
| --- | --- |
| Personal site | Proves who you are and what you know, and says you are not anonymous |
| Business site | Focuses fully on selling one product, kept apart from personal matters |

The personal site **supports the business site**. A customer reads the business site, sees the person behind the product, then goes to the personal site to trust that person. Instead of building a single, weak brand, you build an ecosystem with yourself at the center from the start.

Write to Sell teaches you to build the content system for both sites. Getting clear on yourself once gives you both a personal brand and a business brand.
