# Build your first Truth vault from what you have

The result is the first pages of your Truth vault. Each page is one fact you have done and made public. The vault starts small. It fills up as you do more and write more down.

## What do you need to get ready?

- **A product that really exists.** The vault records facts about a product you have held in your hands. With no product, there is nothing to record.
- **A list of brand keywords.** This is the easiest place to start. They are the names you gave to your methods, ideas and products.
- **Things you have already packaged**, such as a philosophy, a mission, a formula or a way of working. The packaging does not have to be perfect, because the vault updates over time. The condition is that you have done it, not just thought of it.
- **A private place to draft the structure**, which is not the vault itself. Notes, a notebook or a digital brain all work.
- **A public place to publish**, on your own website. A vault that is not public cannot be checked by anyone.

## Build the first pages of the vault

Building the vault means writing down what already exists, not thinking up something new. So it is slow at first and fast later. You go slow to go fast.

1. **List the facts you already have**

The vault starts from what you have already done. In your private place, write each brand keyword on its own line. If you start from the product, open it, find its most important features and write them down. Then add the dry facts about you, such as years, lists, logs and expertise. These are too much for the about page on your website, but they belong in the vault. At the end of this step, you have a long list of facts, one on each line.
2. **Group them and build the structure first**

The vault is, at its core, a set of groups. Things that are alike go into one **group**, for example the core features. Pages that repeat in the same pattern, such as the guides and explanations inside one feature, form a **collection**. Sort the list from the last step into groups and collections, then give each line a page type: step-by-step guide, do-it-yourself guide, explanation or reference. You will see the structure of the vault on paper, with nothing published yet.
3. **Write each page in full, then publish**

The vault takes only complete content, never an empty frame. Write each page like a normal article, with a summary at the top and the facts in the body. Do not tell a story and do not play on the reader's feelings. Publish a page when it is done, and keep an unfinished page in your private place. AI can rewrite from the facts you give it, as long as you review every page. You end up with a few public pages, and each one can be linked to.

## How do you know the first vault is right?

The vault is right when every page passes three questions:

- **Can you trace it back?** Every statement on the page is something you have done, and it is true today.
- **Is anything from the future on it?** Plans, goals and products that have not launched must come off.
- **Is any page an empty frame?** A page with only a title or a list of sections comes down. Publish it again when it is fully written.

If a page fails a question, fix that page before you write a new one.

## If building the vault does not go as expected

### The vault is empty and you do not know what to write

An empty vault means you have no finished work to record, or you do not yet understand your own product well. Go back to the product. Use it, find what it can do, then write that down. The vault records work, so to fill it, do the work. Do not think up more.

### You get stuck on philosophy, mission and about you

These are facts you must state, and beginners often get stuck here. The cause is usually that you are not clear on what you are pursuing, or you have not packaged it. First make clear what you are pursuing and which of your formulas holds it. Then write it into the vault.

### You already have many posts from before the vault

Read your old posts again and pick out what is still true, then move it into the vault. If a post describes a method that you have since replaced, update that post, and [update the vault](/docs/content-system/truth-vault/guides/update-the-vault-first) at the same time.

## When this guide does not fit you

You have no product, only an idea or a plan. You cannot build a vault yet. Keep the idea in your notes or digital brain, and read [A clear product](/docs/content-system/conditions/product) first.
