Home page template

The home page template splits the page into 8 blocks along the customer's path, from the value promise to a gift, for you to fill in.

Published Updated

The home page template splits your home page into 8 blocks in order. You fill each block with your own content instead of starting from a blank page. Hoang Hxn, the companion coach of Write to Sell, shares it on Blueky (opens in a new tab).

Eight blocks along the customer's path

A home page is a salesperson

The template treats the home page as a salesperson who works all day, not a CV. Piling messy information onto the page only makes customers leave sooner.

The page’s only goal is to bring customers to the point of buying. Customers pay for a solution, not for a pretty layout, so content comes first and polish comes later. The eight blocks follow the customer’s path of attention, empathy, trust, then action.

The eight blocks

  1. Value promise

The first three blocks catch and hold attention, because in the first few seconds, customers only want to know if you can solve their problem. This block is a big headline that names what customers want most, with one single action button.

  2. Empathy story

A short paragraph showing you understand their pain because you were stuck there too. Keep it very short, so customers finish it feeling you are telling their story, and they want to read on to see how you solve it.

  3. Core roadmap

Your own method laid out as a simple map of a few steps, for example Position, Package, Sell. Customers look at the map and see the road from where they stand to the result they want.

  4. Proof of change

The next three blocks build trust, because once customers are interested, doubt sets in. This block tells customer stories with a clear before and after, never generic praise, so readers see a real change in someone like them.

  5. Your products

One card per product, each stating its benefit with its own sign-up button. Customers compare your products at a glance, then click straight into the one that fits them without hunting for it.

  6. Frequent questions

Straight answers to the 3 to 5 reasons customers still hold back, such as “what if I am not good with technology?”. Each answer removes one barrier, so customers feel confident enough to buy.

  7. Gift

The last two blocks funnel and nurture, so readers who reach the bottom without buying do not leave empty-handed. This block offers a good resource, such as an ebook or a template, in exchange for an email.

  8. Posts

Your 3 best posts, so readers who barely know you yet step into the Know - Trust - Love funnel. They do not buy today, but every extra post they read brings them closer to the product.

Which site is it for?

The template leans toward selling, so it fits the home page of a business site best, where every block leads to the product.

For a personal site’s home page, keep the 4 questions of Create a home page as your frame, namely who you are, what you do, what you sell, who you have helped. Then borrow the blocks that suit you, such as the empathy story or proof of change.
