Capture and Share

Capture and Share is the daily habit of capturing new things in your Digital brain and sharing them, so you learn twice and keep the vault true.

Updated

Capture and Share is the second part of the Truth vault. Capture means taking in something new and learning it into your Digital brain. Share means sharing what you learned with the outside world. The goal of Capture and Share is creating content based on the truth. You learn everything twice: once when you capture, and once when you share.

Capture comes first, and it has two sources.

Capture means learning from two sources

You capture from two sources:

  • Inner sources: you capture from yourself, for example by recording the ideas you say out loud.
  • Outer sources: you capture from other people, such as a good book or a YouTube clip.

Outer sources must also be brought back to inner sources. When you watch a clip and understand how to do something, you write it down the way you understand it. You do not translate it and copy it word for word. You only save a trace of where the idea came from.

Everything you capture goes through a human filter, following the Philosophy that people come first. By processing it yourself, you learn what is right and what is wrong, you train your instinct, and every note is yours.

Once you have captured something, what you understood needs to be said out loud.

Share to learn it twice

Sharing is learning it one more time

Share means telling other people, not cutting your notes into small pieces. Sharing shows you are ready to say what you learned, and it brings three benefits:

  • A second round of learning. Telling again what you captured is learning once more, so you understand it more deeply.
  • A test of your views. Other people respond, sometimes with criticism, and you decide what your view is.
  • A business chance. What you share is what you are doing, building a product and a brand. Readers learn what you are good at, like your story, and may buy your product.

Share even with no followers

Followers do not matter. You share to get followers, not for the followers who already see it. If you do not share, no one knows about you.

Where you share depends on whether what you share is already true.

Capture inward, share to the vault

Capture always goes into the Digital brain. What you learned in private should not go outside, because that would cost you your edge over competitors. Share to the Truth vault once it has been proven. Also share on social media through content repurposing, so one piece of work does two jobs.

This order also shows why the Digital brain must come first.

Why does the Digital brain come first?

Because the Digital brain is the place to store and to keep traces. Capture needs a place to put things. Share needs a place to keep the trace of what was shared. You capture to learn and share to keep traces, and both run on the Digital brain.

Doing it the other way round is taking notes backwards. On paper, you cannot paste a Facebook link or a video. A few days later the paper gets lost, and the trace goes with it, however carefully you wrote. The Digital brain lets you save very fast, including everything you have shared.

With a place to save, the thing to avoid is capturing without sharing.

Not sharing leads to overload

Not sharing leads to overload
Share to let it out

If you capture too much and do not share, you get knowledge poisoning. Learning a lot without sharing creates an uncomfortable pressure. Sharing relieves it and frees both your memory and your feelings.

Capturing the right way also means doing it yourself, not asking AI to do it for you.

Summarize it yourself, not with AI

Capture and Share is different from asking AI for a summary, because you pull out the ideas yourself. If you can sum up a problem, you can read the ideas. If you can read the ideas, you can write them, which fits the Idea step of the Idea - Write - Edit process. Content follows ideas, not wording.

AI can only help you find a spot. With a very long video, you can ask AI for a summary to see which idea sits in which part. Then you listen closely to the part you need and skip what you already know.

Capture and share need a steady rhythm.

Every day, in 30-day rounds

Capture and Share is counted every day, not every week: what did you learn today, and did you set aside time for it? For example, read one or two pages of a book each morning, capture what you learned, then share it outside. Whatever you share that is already true goes into the vault right away.

To build the habit, one round of Capture and Share is a 30-day campaign, or 365 days if you like. The Capture and Share challenge is one such round. Each round builds your Truth vault and also warms up your followers and your social media profiles.

If you skip this rhythm for a long time, the vault shows clear signs.

A vault without sharing goes stale

A vault without Capture and Share gets few updates, then stops completely. If you do not capture enough and do not share, the vault slowly goes out of date and becomes untrue. A comparison with another company is wrong as soon as that company changes, and even the page that is only about you gets old.

The vault exists to serve your product and your brand assets. When the product changes, the vault changes with it. You capture to learn what features your competitors release and what the market is saying, then you steer your product strategy.
